Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy, is the answer to your pain?

What is Shockwave Therapy?

Shockwave therapy (ESWT) is a novel, cost-effective, scientifically-proven treatment for tendon pain (also known as tendinitis or tendinopathy) and other disorders throughout the body. Extracorporeal refers to something that exists outside of the body.

The major advantages of shockwave therapy are pain alleviation and early activities restoration. Shockwave therapy has been demonstrated to be beneficial for a variety of common tendon issues, including Achilles tendinopathy plantar fasciitis, shoulder tendinitis and tennis elbow.

Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive, safe treatment with a significant body of research and clinical studies supporting its efficacy.

How does ESWT work?

This is frequently referred to as the mechanism of action. Shockwave therapy employs a specialised device to send high impulsed sound energy to the affected area of the body via the skin. The shockwaves are mechanical rather than electrical. They are high-energy audible sound waves that stimulate blood flow to the affected tissue.

Shockwave treatment has two primary routes of action that can help with tendon discomfort. The shockwaves first operate to desensitise nerve endings, which frequently results in an instant decrease in pain. Second, and frequently most critically, shockwaves create regulated micro-trauma (microscopic injury) to tissues, prompting the body to respond by boosting blood circulation and metabolism in the afflicted area. This will trigger and speed up the body's natural healing reaction.
